- An unusual or allergic reaction to kava kava, other herbs, plants, medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- Pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- Breast-feeding
How should I use this medication?
Take this supplement by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the package labeling, or take as directed by your care team. For best results take this supplement with food. Do not take this supplement more often than directed.
Contact your care team about the use of this supplement in children. This supplement is not recommended for use in children.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
What may interact with this medication?
- Alcohol
- Barbiturate medications for seizures or sleep
- Leflunomide
- Medications for depression, anxiety, or psychotic disturbances
- Medications for sleep
- Methotrexate
- Muscle relaxants
- Narcotic pain relievers
- Riluzole
- Tacrine

What should I watch for while using this medication?
See your care team if your symptoms do not get better or if they get worse. Do not take this supplement for more than 4 weeks unless your care team tells you to. Long term use of this supplement has not been proven to be helpful and may be harmful.
You may get drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this supplement affects you. Do not stand or sit up quickly, especially if you are an older patient. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Alcohol may interfere with the effect of this supplement. Avoid alcoholic drinks.
If you are scheduled for any medical or dental procedure, tell your care team that you are taking this supplement. You may need to stop taking this supplement before the procedure.

- Liver injury—right upper belly pain, loss of appetite, nausea, light-colored stool, dark yellow or brown urine, yellowing skin or eyes, unusual weakness or fatigue
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness the day after use
- Upset stomach
